Yearly Charity

Each year the club has a Charity or Charities of the year where we aim to provide some fundraising and awareness support. For 2025 we had 4 very good submissions and we are pleased that we have managed to accommodate all of them.

We decided that the two main fund-raising Charities next year will be Macmillan Cancer Support and St Leonard’s Hospice.

Alongside these is the Charity “From me to you letters” which encourages people to write letters to Cancer Patients, many of who don’t have a support network. This proposal was put forward by Gill Johnson. Their main focus is getting people involved by running workshops to explain the work they do. This obviously chimes with the other two charities and Gill has invited them to run a Workshop at Magnets on 25th January 2025.

Gill has invited one of the Trustees (who was a recipient of letters) to run a Workshop at Magnets on 25th January 2025 10.30am – 12.30pm. As it can be difficult to know what to say in a letter, this workshop will show you how to get the letters flowing and what a difference the letters will make.

The focus on fundraising in the first part of the year will be on Macmillan. The proposal was submitted by Debbie Mason on behalf of six harrier members, Amanda, Debbie B, Debbie M, Jayne. Lisa and Vicky. All six are taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April and will be running on behalf of Macmillan. As a team they need to raise a minimum of £1800. 00. A cake and coffee morning is already booked for 1st March at Magnets. Watch this space for further details.

In the second half of the year, the focus will be on St Leonard’s which was put forward by Claire Caulfield and we have already discussed putting a Harriers team into the Yorkshire Marathon Relay. There will be more information out later.

The Fourth submission was Endometriosis UK from Lynda Bonser. We have allocated 2026 to this Charity.
